Same thing as Iranian.
A person that is from Iran. A person who has an Iranian background.
The main Persian religion is Islam, and the other religion right behind it is Judaism. There are few Christian Persians.
According to the U.S. government, all Persians as well as all of the Middle Easterners are classified as white (yes, even Indians), even though they really aren't. They should be classified as Middle Eastern.
The Persian Muslims are desendents of Indo-Europeans, or the Aryans, and they were white. But look at them, Persian Muslims don't have pale skin anymore (they are tan, and brown, possibly near black!), they don't have blonde hair anymore (its dark brown and black), and their eyes are brown and black now (not hazel and blue). They ARE NOT Arab!! They speak Farsi.
The Persian Jews, unlike Persian Muslims, are desendents of the Hebrews from Ancient Israel, and they are very close to the Arabs, but they are NOT Europeans. The Persian Jews are are NOT Aryan. They look the same as the Muslims from Iran, they are exactly the same, except of the religions and ancestory. But the same. Their skin colors are tan and brown as well. And NO, Persian Jews aren't cheap (ALL PERSIANS ARE CHEAP AT TIMES), and a lot of Persians need nose jobs themselves, not just the stereotypical "big-nosed" Jew. They speak the same Farsi as Persian Muslims.
Being Persian is the same exact same thing as being Iranian.

An ethnicity making up around 60% of Iranians, and majority of Afghanistan and Tajikistan. Unlike how most Iranian Americans say, they claim that Iran is a persian nation, which is partially true, but using the terms persian and Iranian interchangeably is very ignorant. Persians are an Iranic race, so are Kurds, Gilaks, etc. Iran refers to a nation, so if you use iranian and persian interchangeably, you completely exclude all other Persians. Persian is a very different language then Azeri, Gilaki, Kurdish, etc. One thing to note is how people say Iran is not an arab nation, which is mostly true, however 1-4% of Iranians are arab.
Iranian American: “Yeah Iran isn’t arab, we’re persian. The words persian and Iranian are interchangeable”
Me: “only 60% of Iranians are persian! I’m not persian I’m Gilaki and Azari, and you completely forget the Persians of Afghanistan, Tajikistan and the ones in Uzbekistan, you are confusing nationality and ethnicity”

A nicer way to say Iranian. Used by those who are afraid of what others might think of their culture. It would be like a Syrian calling him/herself Phoenician or someone from the Czech Republic referring to their country as Czechoslovakia.
1) Even though I am or my family is from Iran, a middle-eastern country, I'm going to hide my heritage by calling myself the less offensive and more exotic-sounding name of a dead empire that once controlled my present-day country. That way, ignorant, narrow-minded, uneducated fools won't judge me with bias and I can blend in with society. I'll let them hate on the Middle-Easterns that are proud of their countries instead.
2) You're Iranian, not Persian...unless you were born there before 1935...get over it...

Notes: Many of the Nazi leaders (Goebbels, Himmler, Speers, Rommel, Goering, Hess, Frank, etc.) were themselves brunettes. On the other hand, many of the Jews that were persecuted were whiter-skinned than many of the Nazi leaders:

Persian nowadays refers to an ethnic group (some members of which have been mixed with other groups such as Turks and Arabs) living in Iran. Iranian However, is a name referring to the nationality of all the people living in, or originated from the country.
