An LA based band whose music once possessed a unique and original blend of armenian and metal influences with deep political subject matter.
But now (November 2005) has abandonned their raw sounding roots towards more melodic/pop vocal directions due to the lead guitarists (Daron Malakian) change in musical taste, although still holding true to their original political lyrical content.

Soad fan 2 : What the hell are you talking about, the first album was the best. They sounded like Slayer, now they sound like everything else on the radio.

first off, there are way too many people saying how System of a Down "is crappy pop music" "lyric's make no sense" "overrated" Pop? are you kidding me? You cannot place the likes of Britney Spears and The Click Five with System of a Down. The lyrics are one of the reasons so many people love them. They are so abstract and SOAD lets you decifer what you think the song meaning should be. Someone quoted 'Cigaro' saying how the lyrics (My cock is much bigger than yours/My cock can walk right through the door) are stupid, but you don't even get the meaning. FYI, the song is about how everyone wants to have their stuff bigger and better than everyone elses'. Its mocking the American way: We have bigger weapons, bigger trucks, bigger food, etc. System of a Down is DEFINATLY not overrated. The music is incredible. Simple guitar riffs? Daron, the guitar player, is an incredibly talented person, as is everyone else in the band. All you metal-chomping shitheads who have this harder-core-than-thou attitude need to take a reality check. Just because they are famous, well-known, and are ont he radio doesn't lower the quality of the music. So what if they are popular? They DESERVE the fame-they're simply the best.
System of a Down, the first album is the best by far. Its their self-titled; BUY IT!!

An amazing, and super unique band! Posers should stay the hell away from SOAD. But other than that, people who don't listen to System Of A Down are missing out on one of the best bands in the world!

A political and anti-war band, who YES sometimes sing about drugs and nothing, but many of their songs encourage recognition of genocide, such as the Armenian Genocide. The members themselves are Armenian, and live in the USA. All 4 members lost family during the genocide. They are a metal/heavy metal/rock/in their own genre/alternative/"nu-metal" band.
Their song B.Y.O.B (Bring your Own Bombs) clearly shows their views of war, as it is a song written to protest the war in Iraq.

Me: It's called Screamers, about Genocides.

wow i love thier new song B.Y.O.B (bring your own bombs) its quite hard to hear some of the lyrics but i looked them up and they are goood "why don't presidents fight the war? Why do we always send the poor?" and Daron Malakian has a realy good voice!
