It is one of the informal ways of saying goodbye to someone. Apparently, this phrase has been derived from a 50's pop song. The person to whom this phrase is being said, says- 'In a while crocodile!'

This phrase may originate with the Apollo 8 mission, the first time in history humans had passed behind the other side of the moon from earth.
CapCom Gerry Carr spoke to the three astronauts more than 200,000 miles away, "Ten seconds to go. You are GO all the way." Command Module Pilot James Lovell replied, "We'll see you on the other side", and Apollo 8 disappeared behind the Moon, the first time in history men had been occulted. For 34 minutes there would be no way of knowing what happened.

This is an old use and still use for this catch phrase to tell someone see you. and the answer for it after while, crocodile, alligator and crocodile were brought for the sake of rhyme.

Originated from the movie Total Recall. As Quaid (played by Schwartzenegger) is about to have his memory wiped, which would turn him into one of the bad guys, Richter sarcastically says "See you at the party" - implying that they would be partners at that point.
Quaid escapes and later kills Richter. As Richter falls to his death, Quaid yells at him, "See you at the party, Richter!"
This can be randomly yelled for no reason or if you've just beaten someone in some contest. Or if you just threw someone to their death - you can yell it as they are falling.
After knifing a sniper in the head in COD4 multiplayer: "See you at the party, Richter!"

An informal goodbye greeting. Usually used to indicate that the recipient is somehow defeated, unworthy, or left behind; hence their worthiness to appear only as a comic strip character in the funny pages.

Commonly stated by the class goofball while on their way out of the classroom before winter break.
Since the break goes through new years day, the jokester is stating that the next time he greets you, it will be a year ahead the last time he saw you.
