I don't think I agree with this general definition here. When I think "sell out", I don't think of someone who blew up out of popularity. Most of the time, they have no choice over that, so its not fair to them and it makes the labeler look like a hater. Plus, what if that was their goal right from the beginning? You're basically chastising them for having hopes and dreams.
When I think of a sell out, I think of someone who vehemently spoke out against something or people who did something but later turns around and does the same thing. That is also a hypocrite.
There's nothing wrong with wanting do really well for yourselves. Like I said before some of these people had no choice and if you care for the actor, band, etc. you would be glad their talent got them where they are. I mean, we all have dreams, and we all gotta eat and fend for ourselves. If you have a talent, by all means flaunt it.
And trust me, I know how bad it feels when stupid people get a hold of your favorite band, but again that's not the band's fault and there will ALWAYS be a stupid bunch a group, period. No other way around it.
But when people actually talk about how stupid someone is, or how wrong one profession is, then later decides that they want to be in that profession or be that person's friend, that's when I have a problem. That's not attractive, at all. That's trifling, wishy washy, and fake.

Compromising your integrity, usually for money. Its that simple. This word is mostly used to describe bands that go mainstream.
Green Day aren't sellouts because despite their recent popularity, they never changed their sound. They were just never very good...

1. A band that changes it's style for stupid teenybopper girls and getting more money, even though they already have tons of it.
2. A word used by teenaged wannabe goths/punks to sound hardcore. Those people usually come up with bullshit reasons like "WE DON'T WANT TO CONFORM TO SOCIETY" and say "THEY BECAME POPULAR AND STARTED TO SUCK".

A sell out rapper who only raps for albums sales, money, respect, and popularity.
Often the case with rapper's for sell is that their lyrics are predictable, they talk about the hood, how tough things are, how much money they have, and what cars they drive, what clothes they wear, they depict women nothing more as sexual creatures,music is mostly for the clubs, ect ect, their rhymes usually contain a very basic 'ABC' pattern, with minor variations and the chorus usaully has four words that repeat 10x, Also the beat that they rap to mostly sounds the same, especially with sourthern crunk/western hyphy type. the most notable feature of a rapper for sell is that their music has no meaning, it's just a plug for money, album sells, respect and popularity.
If you want to see a rapper for sell in action just watch MTV and BET.
If you want to know what a real rapper is about then listen to underground/alternative rap.
