Modern. Describes something seen as current with the majority culture in the West.

The term urban legend designates a folk tale perceived as more modern than other traditional or culture-specific stories, in spite of the fact that many urban legends do not take place in urban areas.

More an interesting snippet of trivia that anything else BUT... did you know that Urban was also the name of a papal lineage in the medieval period? The Crusades were triggered largely by a speech by Pope Urban II at Clermont, France in 1095.

After hearing about the Turkish incursions into the Christian East, Pope Urban II set about preaching the morality of crusading.
