Black Friday

Day when American Christmas shoppers wait outside Wal-mart for days, just to get the best price.

Sometimes leads to the trampling/stomping of Wal-mart employees

Jim: I can't wait to go shopping! I'm gonna get all my stuff on Black Friday!

Tim: Why would you wake up at an ungodly hour to go shopping?

Jim: ...Shut it...

Black Friday

The Friday after Thanksgiving in which the American retail industry booms as the Holiday shopping season "officially" starts. It is marked by extended store hours, and consumer competetition in order to take advantage of the numerous discounts and specials.

The name comes from the fact that many businesses make gains for their yearly profits, putting it in the "black" ink as opposed to the red ink, which they often operate on in the months preceding Black Friday.

Another theory or application of the name is that in a sense it is the exact opposite of Black Tuesday, in that the retail economy booms as opposed to collapsing as it did in 1929 on Black Tuesday.

Have you seen the sales at Acme Inc. for Black Friday? We need to go to bed early on Thanksgiving so we can get up in time to beat the crowds there.

black friday

The day after Thanksgiving, on which thousands of people flock to the stores like lemmings, risking getting trampled just to save a few dollars even though they have a whole month to do their Christmas shopping.

Also of note: retailers sometimes understock the shelves to create an illusion of scarcity. That "last item in the store" that you just bought was probably one of many "last items" sitting in the store room.

Black Friday makes complete nuts out the sanest people; mothers will kill each other just to get a doll for little Suzie.

black friday

1. The craziest shopping day, and the highest store revenue day of the year.

2. The friday after Thanksgiving traditionally used an economic indicator of America's economy.

1. Hey, I almost got hung because I grabbed the last Xbox 360!

2. Business teacher: This friday is black friday and we will see how this economy is REALLY doing.
