In the tank

A term referring to something, (often a sector or market,) that has performed very poorly or well below expectations.

Something is said to "Be tanking" while it is on it's way down and performing poorly.

"The company's profits were in the tank."
"His performance was tanking."
"Because of Ad blockers, site ad revenue was in the tank!"

To, when presented with a worst-case scenario to which all other alternatives have been exhausted, simply endure it. Named for the tank character in an MMORPG who is typically responsible for taking the brunt of attacks.

An epic computer game involving 2-4 players firing projectiles, ranging from small misseles to atom bombs, at each other, attempting to destroy each other's tanks. This game is famous for douche moves such as air strike, super shield, teleport kamikaze attack, and teaming up on noobs.

v. To persevere through a bad situation that would normally depress or discourage anyone else. Derived from the MMORPG term "tank" that refers to a character role that soaks damage but fails to die.
