Pop-Punk

A punk subgenre, originally introduced in the 1970s, but obtained worldwide commercial success in 1990s and early 2000s, thanks mainly to Green Day, Blink-182, Rancid, and The Offspring.

Most definitions of pop-punk on this site put down several bands, like Simple Plan.

What Pop-punk really is is the fast, loud guitars of punk rock, but with catchy, usually light, melodies. Lyrics aren't meant to be political or angry.

Today's mainstream pop-punk is extremely different from that of the 90s, sounding more like emo, with moody, one-hit bands in hollister sweaters wearing a backwards hat.

The chart-topping bands of 2004 aren't recieving as much attention as before.

Punk rock

Punk is some of the greatest music of all time in my opinion. Real punk consists of bands like Minor Threat, Civil Disobedience, Leftover Crack, Bad Brains, A Global Threat, and so much more. (Notice I didn't put the typical Ramones or Sex Pistols because 1. they're not even that great 2. they ain't got shit on most hardcore punk bands out there and 3. they're kind of overrated.) Anyone that wants to say bands like MXPX or Lagwagon (I usually call them pussy punk, but even calling them any kind of punk at all is just insulting to the real deals) are punk deserves to be shot in the back of the fucking head, seriously. Notice that bands like that have a simple band name probably with no meaning behind it and lyrics that appeal to kids 12 and under...douche bag pussies. Bands like Bad Religion and A Global Threat a great meaning behind the title as well as the lyrics that usually have to do with the fucked up society we live in today. People may tell me that punk is dead but you know what? Doesn't mean I still can't like it. AND a lot of old school punk bands are still making great music today, so FUCK YOU! =

Punks not dead, it just smells that way.

plastic punk

The meaning has changed slightly over time:

1970s: An individual or band who took up punk too late after its mid-70s birth, and so simulated the general look of late punk but little of the original ethos. Most 'plastic punks' were fashion-oriented, in it just because it meant they could finally start wearing something non-hippy. A minority had some of the original punk attitude too - but it was directed as violence against other punks and against the teddy-boy revivalist of the time. Often the latter 'plastic punks' caused a lot of the violence at gigs in '78/'79.

1990s onwards: the term is still being used in the USA and UK, to deride "punk" bands who use the music style to spout mainstream liberal 'politically-correct' attitudes.

1970s: "In the incident Joe Strummer, of The Clash had smacked a member of the mob with his guitar, was arrested and released after it had been established that he wasn't pissed. The band were, however, pissed off by this element at their gigs. Yet again, the result of a plastic punk attitude."

1990s, USA: "...forget those impressions of the East Bay as being a politically-correct plastic punk world. The bands featured here are the underground of the underground."

1990s USA: "Perhaps predicting, predating and being too iconoclastic for plastic punk chic, it's unlikely they are going to be on the cover of The Face quite yet."

1990s, England: "Goldsmiths Tavern is only good for a stabbing or a puking plastic punk."

A way of life more than simpily a movement, created in 1989 bye James Taylor in Stafford England. a true modern punk who shyed away from the fame and fortune and stay true to PunK ethics. James grew up in a middle class family in stafford england at the age of 18 he started to create this interesting style to witch many have tried and most have failed to replicate.

pronounced, PunK ChiC (as if you were saying sheek) taken from the french word meaning style, elegance, a sense of ore.

its the ability to create a fashion statement mixing high fashion with urban fashion, with beautiful tattoo art work to match
