Stan

noun
the word “stan” has come a long way from the original definition of being a crazed stalker fan.

due to constant change in online culture, today stan refers to someone who is a devoted and enthusiastic fan of something/someone, and it is often used to replace “I respect and like.”

I can’t stop listening to BTS! I’m in my BTS stan era.

Eric watches all the Oklahoma Sooner games, but he refuses to admit that he’s a Caleb Williams stan.

Stan

Originating from the Eminem song of the same name, "Stan", as a noun, was originally used to describe overly obsessive fans. It has frequently been attributed to K-Pop fans who obsess over boy band members to the point of total infatuation, similar to the "Stan" music video.

However, it now seems to be synonymous with "fan" as the word has lost all of its original meaning due to overuse and misuse on social media.

"Omg, I'm such a stan for The Hunchback of Notre Dame!"

Stan

Slang derived from the song aptly titled "Stan" from the Marshall Mathers LP, in which an obsessive fan named Stan goes as far as to kill himself in order to be recognised by his idol, in this case, Marshall Mathers. Stan is generally considered to be a portmanteau of "(st)alker" and "f(an)".

In recent times, the definition has just been changed to "someone who supports a creator a large amount", but many feel that doesn't do the term "stan" justice.

Person A: "Wait, if we are to go by the old definition of stan, are all the Twitter stans I see regularly really stans?"
Person B: "It's internet lingo, get over yourself."

Stan

It's another word for describing (hardcore) fans. People who idolize somebody else.

Sometimes the term is used in an offensive way, to 'attack' somebody who is idiolizing another person hardcore.

It's originated from the song Stan by Eminem. A song that goes about a hardcore Eminem fan called Stan.

The term has been used in several songs by different artists, like Logic in his song Return.

"Eminem is so awesome, I'm a real Stan!"

"Used to call you a hater, you a motherfuckin' Stan"

-Logic

Dude why do you idiolize him so much? You're such a Stan
