A style that seems to be coming up everywhere. Christian metal. As was said earlier, you don't exactly have to be like black metal, and it is NOT faggot music (think.. Christianity, homosexuals?). It used to be kind of rare to see a Christian metal band (because it was always thought of as oxymoron), but lately it has been coming up everywhere.

A subgenre of music that was largely popular from 1996 - 2002 mostly. It still has a moderate following as of 2010 though. Bands like Korn, Limp Bizkit, Clawfinger, Disturbed, Hed PE, Linkin Park, Coal Chamber, and Vanilla Ice can all be considered Nu Metal bands. It has a subculture and the typical clothhing style of said subculture are baggy jeans/shorts, tattoos, piercings, Adidas brand shoes and clothing, skateboarding brand clothes and shoes(Adio, Etnies, DC Shoes, Vans, etc.) and sometimes dyed and/or spiked hair. Traditional Metalheads hate it due to the fact that Nu Metal dosen't have guitar solos and is more angsty thus making them say it is "Un Metal". I personally think it is the greatest genre of Rock/Metal to have ever been made!
Nu Metal fan - "Hey, have you heard the new Korn album? It AWESOME!"

Rock music popular in the 80s with catchy choruses, usually romantic but friendly lyrics, major scales and joyful tones and usually was more hard rock than metal. The bands usually were drag queens. They also often sold out and made power ballads or went unplugged.

Oh and also, TWISTED SISTER ARE NOT GLAM METAL, THEY'RE JUST HEAVY METAL. They sound NOTHING like glam, and sound more like Judas Priest, Saxon and Ozzy than Poison and Ratt. Neither are their lyrics glam. How is rebellion and kicking ass with rock n roll considered love and lust?????? They only got called glam just cause of their frontmans look. Glam is NOT a fashion. It's music. And at least Dee Snider has a more shock rock look than a glamour look. He's meant to look freaky in that makeup, not glamour-friendly. And he doesn't wear makeup anymore. And shit even metal archives doesn't even call them glam. Even Metallica were huge fans of twisted sister and they obviously DESPISED glam. If TS are glam, so is Iron Maidrn and Saxon. It's obvious they don't sound anything like the glam bands, they don't sound all joyful catchy pop-influenced shit that glam does. I bet if u told a fan they were glam they'd knock your god damn lights out!!!
REAL glam metal: Quiet Riot, Kix, Poison, Cinderella, Warrant, Mötley Crüe (except the first 2 albums; they were just heavy metal), Ratt, Whitesnake, KISS (1983-1989), Dokken, White Lion, Black Veil Brides, etc
NOT glam: Twisted Sister, Alice Cooper (although the song poison sounds glam), GnR, Van Halen, Ozzy Osbourne, etc

Crap metal with no solos, poorly written lyrics, and artist are merely in it for the money.

About popularity.
It seems like everyone hates nu metal bands for being rich and popular. Ozzy (cough, cough, old-ass shit) is freakin famous and filthy rich... HEY, He MUST be nu metal!!!!

So maybe some nu metal bands only formed to become famous, but if all the metalheads are just about making music cuz they love to, they would still be in their garages playing their songs. It's not like the forced Ozzy to sell his records.(Agent: Ozzy, become famous!

About no solos.
Maybe they like music without solos, just cuz they dont have them, doesn't mean they can't write them.
When Linkin Park played "By Myself" live in Texas, they played it with a something like a solo, sure it wasnt like 100 notes a second, but it was great.
I dont like solos myself, cuz they're all so fast and great, not my taste.

A much hated and derided form of music that got popular somewhere between Nirvana and The Spice Girls. It basically took all the complexities of metal and replaced it with rap/hip hop elements.
Bands included: Limp Bizkit,Korn,Slipknot,Insane Clown Posse,Papa Roach and,to an extent,Evanescence and Lostprophets.
Mostly they were shitty beyond shitty but some bands were occasionally good. Korn usually throw out brilliant mosh music and Slipknot are always entertaning.
Nu metal was regarded by some as 80 hair metal for the modern generation,many more publically blasted it but secretly enjoyed it. That's what Nu Metal was really: a HUGE guilty pleasure. Shame on us all for being a part of it.
Once Limp Bizkit lumbered along the horizon,that dumb fuck Fred Durst singing about "Nookie" and "Rollin" like the bastard child of Vannila Ice and Monica Lewinsky,Nu Metal was officially dead. If it was ever alive,that is.
Nu Metal has been succesfully glossed over in the history books,much like Bon Jovi or The War. Slipknot are still trodding their music out to an ever depleating fanbase of 8 year olds,Korn are still doing their things like a 90s nostalgia act and everybody else has either died or retired. Linkin Park have "removed" their Nu Metal sound and Papa Roach has "gone sexy". Heaven help us!
