indies

People with their own style, particularly one that is criticized by others. They generally like Indie Rock music, and wear a lot of little kid's jewellery. They like to wear obscure things like coloured tights, fairy wings and things that are either far too big or far too small. They have or want wacky hairstyles and the second something goes out of fashion they claim it as their own. They rock!

FAMOUS EXAMPLES: Brian Molko (Placebo), Scissor Sisters.

Indie

a label that people just don't understand that fucking concept of.
"indies" tend to dress in plaid flannels, wear thick rimmed glasses, any "vintage" band tees, bandanas, ray bans, converse, etc etc.
although they strive to stand out & not follow trends, they usually turn out to look just like every other "indie kid" out there, much like emos, scenes, etc..
individual doesn't mean go out there and dress in vintage clothes, it means to do what YOU want do. not to do what OTHERS don't do. most people who claim to be indies try way too hard to not be like others. long story short, a true individual is open to things and doesn't try to be anything, just do or dress whatever way they want.

'Indie' kid: yeah i went to Urban Outfitters, i'm soooo indie!
True individual: oh their clothes are pretty cute. how is it indie?
'Indie' kid: because no one shops there and im sooo original for wearing their clothes.
True individual: haha a lot of people shop there ya'know..
'Indie' kid: fuck.

True individual: huh, Green Day isn't too bad...
'Indie' kid: uuggghhh i hate them!
True individual: what's wrong with 'em?
'Indie' kid: too much people listem to them {indie kid bitches for hours about how it's "unoriginal" and tries to sound like a genius}
True individual: ha, so you won't give it a chance just because people listen to them?
'Indie' kid: Exactly.
True individual: uh, just because some bands don't have many listeners doesn't mean their automatically musical geniuses...
'Indie' kid: *blank stare* {in her head she's panicing because she just got outsmarted}
True individual: mhm...

Indie

Popular and mainstream. Used to be alternative many many years ago but is now mainstream. Indie Rock is not real rock it is pop. Indie clothing is very light coloured and popular. It is shit in other words.

indie

1. A broad genre of music. Originally meaning unsigned with a record label, indie evolved out of garage rock music. Many people consider indie to have deep and meaningful lyrics (probably because it's not in the mainstream.)
2. A word southern British white girls use way too often to describe things/fellow adolescents that have the slightest abnormality with the modern style/customs. The type of people that use this word tend to go to music festivals in order to get high (whilst not giving a shit about music unless it's like Bastille or whatever the fuck you guys listen to) and tend to pick and choose parts of the 1960's hippie counterculture: the kind of things like the fashion and soft drugs, whilst ignoring the important and core beliefs like actually cooperating with and loving other humans and giving a shit about the environment etc. Seriously you guys suck.

White Girl: I'm going to get a Buddha statue from a flea market for my room, that'll prove I'm a deep and indie, despite knowing nothing about Buddhism.

indie

most are down to earth,
like people who recycle, use non-harmful to enviornment products etc.
yes it does stand for independant,
usually these people do not like labels and go for the labels suck routine,
they listen to a lot of bands that are "underground" such as the hush sound, and death cab for cutie which are some of the more popular bands.
no not all of them are bitchy and don't listen to other people's opinions although some are.
most are pretty open-minded to others opinions but prefer to go along with there own.
they are usually out-casts that don't fit in in any stereo-typical group.
many despise the "hot topic" scene because they think it's just for a bunch of depressed people who can only think about death,
you can usually find them hanging out at:
urban out fitters,
coffee shops,
libraries,
or shows.
most tend to be on the computer a lot.
as i have always said indie people come in different varieties,
they made this stereotype for the people who didn't really fit in in just one area.
and i must say that they have the best fucking music i have ever heard.

indie

In Britain:
An alternative type of music that often has deep meaningful lyrics or can have ironic story like lyrics. Vocals tend to be mild, somber and heartfelt and music involves guitars /and or piano and drums. Acustic guitars are a favourite. The result is downbeat, beautiful rock that has alot of meaning. People that listen to indie can be anyone; but people that wear cord blazers, worn jeans and scarves are often catorised as Indie. Oh why do we have these genres???
