Dating is where you ask someone out and they agree. Breaking up is where either person physically tells their partner that they aren't dating anymore

Basically when you're boyfriend/girlfriend. Like if you ask the person out and they say yes, then you guys are dating/are in a relationship.
Be careful not to mistake someone asking you out on a date like "do you want to go out?" (as in go to the movies) with going out as boyfriend/girlfriend, because it can create confusion. It has happened to me before.
Maria is dating Alessandro. They look so happy together.

A rare gathering between a Tech boy and a UVA girl. This occurance is rare because the UVA girl, due to her nature, often plays hard to get and only accepts to go out about 1/5 of the times that the Tech boy offers, despite the fact the UVA girl is in love with the Tech Boy and dreams about him regularly.
The UVA girl finally decided to go on a date with a Tech Boy. They went out to lunch and ate bagels.

A casual expression not to be confused with actually asking someone out on a date. At times, when you are to pussy to reject someone, u simply say "it's a date" even tho you dont wanna be a part of it.
it's sometimes accompanied with a ;).. BUT it should be read with a sarcastic undertone if the ;) has been added.
It can be interpreted wrong, be careful with how you use this! To avoid misinterpretation, add the ;)
friend nr 1: "OMG my car broke down last night, can you come over and help me, you handy man! and then we can have some beers"
friend nr 2: *thinking I dont want to do this, putting on the fake happy voice* "yeah sure, it's a date ;)
"Wanna go to the library and do some serious studying?"
"Yeah, it's a date!

Usually prounouced NAD. n-ah-d as in the second half of gonads.
1) A setting where 2 people meet usually prior to a date; at coffee or ice cream to evaluate the other person preceding an actual date
2) A social meeting where 2 people may appear to be on a date (either at dinner, miniature golfing, a movie, ect) but if asked will deny the βdateβ and state with great intensity βwe are just friendsβ
Shelley: How was the NAD (Not A Date) last night?
Sam: Oh we went for ice cream, but she has 4 cats . . . .
Shelley: are you going to go see a movie with her tonight
Sam: she has 4 cats . . . .
Shelley: so I guess I am going to have some sort of mental breakdown that will prevent you from going on a the date
Sam: not one, not two, but 4 cats . .
Shelley: but you keep NADding her!
