Autism challenge

A challenge some idiots are doing on TikTok. It's ableist and very offensive towards autistic people.

Person 1: This video is shit! Can't you even do better?
Person 2: I have autism, you know

Social Autism

Relating to the social retard or social retardation. A person who causes undue awkwardness and misses normal social cues during conversation, while technically being considered "normal".

Unlike a social retard, this person is usually of a high IQ, and manages to sporadically control the conversation with an interesting, savant-like twist for specific subjects and topics.

Common in academia, conspiracy theorists, and certain fanatics.

Jason was not a social retard, he had social autism. People avoided speaking around him unless they wanted to discuss the life history of Bob Marley. In the alternative, he was great to have on your team for music trivia night.

Autism Acceptance

When people recognize that autism and disability are a part of the human diversity. When people understand that autistics are no different than everyone else. When people find support groups and accommodations that help autistics become the best people they can be. When people are OK with working with autistics instead of trying to "cure" them. When people understand that they need to have patience when interacting with autistics. When people celebrate and are proud of who autistics are.

Autism Acceptance centers the voices of autistics. It celebrates the autistic culture, and tells people that autistics are valuable to families, communities, and to the entire world exactly as they are EVERY SINGLE DAY (not just on the month of April). Autism Acceptance is when people create a better, more fair, and more inclusive world for everyone (with and without autism).

I appreciate it when people support Autism Acceptance because it shows that they truly respect and care about those who have autism, like me.

When people understand that I don't need a cure for autism because they accept who I am as a person, not only does it make everyone's lives better and easier, but it makes the world a much better place.

(The person who wrote this sentence DOES have autism)

autism mom

A mother of an autistic child. Often considers herself a superhero for raising an autistic child, victimizes herself, and expresses negativity or grief about her child's condition. Likely supports Autism Speaks and the puzzle piece (both offensive to autistic people).

Autism moms always know what's best for their children.
