one of the best if not the best rapper of all time. put out continuously great songs many of which were not released as singles. only rap artist in 20 years to play madison square garden, put out cd after cd packed with some of the best rap out there, wrote some of the greatest lyrics you will ever hear without ever writing down a word. he might have borrowed a line here or there but every rapper has. nas makes good music too but jay-z consistently puts out the deepest cuts with meaning in all of his lyrics...jay didnt put out a record until he started his own record company...something nas could never do nas isnt even half the man jay is today, jay has shoes, clothes, a record company, the ceo of def jam, what does nas have? nothing. jay is the whole package. if he was a candy bar, hed be kingsize, nas would be fun size.
'Can't leave rap alone the game needs me
Haters want me clapped and chromed it ain't easy
Cops wanna knock me, D.A. wanna box me in
But somehow, I beat them charges like Rocky' --H.O.V.A.

The most overrated and underrated rapper (along with Nas) of all time. His PURE CLASSIC "Reasonable Doubt" is offset by pure garbage such as the "In My Lifetime" series. Anyone claiming he's the best alive or even top 5 alive is an idiot, as well as anyone claiming he's not top 20 all-time. Jay-Z's style is a mixture of 70% Big Daddy Kane and 30% Kool G. Rap, and his street hustler tales exhibit Jay at his finest although the overdone bragging about jewels and cars show Jay-Z at his worst. Even "RD" was never as good as "Illmatic", so Jay-Z developed a sort of sibling rivalry with fellow NYC rapper Nas, which led to the Jiggaman's eventual defeat by the diss song "Ether". However, Jay-Z will always be a great rapper, although he someone who dropped 4 piece of shit albums (Best of Both Worlds and Vols. 1, 2, 3) and some decent albums (Blueprint 2, The Black Album, Unplugged) a great album (The Blueprint) and one classic will never be in the top 5.

Yall all got it twisted. Neither Jay-Z nor Nas are the best rappers ever. Only 2pac can carry that title. Tupac has put out more good songs in death then those to have alive. Jay-Z is a lil bitch who steals 2pacs music just like all the other bitches who cant be original like Eminem, 50 cent, and all them fakes.
