Leading Status

The act of posting a vague, attention seeking update on your social network profile that requires other users to inquire about your status.

John: "That girl Ashley posts nothing but leading status updates. Today's was, 'Why do things like this always happen to me?'"
Pete: "Things like what?"
John: "No one knows, she's trying to lead you into feeling bad for her and comment on her update."

leading zero

When something or someone is rendered useless, no good, or bad.

In mathematics:
This 0 (the leading zero) in the number 09 does not make it greater than just 9, because it's for aesthetic/formatting so it's actually useless.

"Hey Mike how was my cheat sheet?, did it worked for you in your open-note test?" ...
"Na dude your shit was literally fucking leading zero."

breaking lead

Expression referring to an instructor's frustration (literally: mechanical pencil lead breaking under excessive comment writing pressure) while marking a student paper which violates both instruction and Standard American English.

After having marked 42 essays that compared and contrasted two poems, nearly every one of them ignoring the pointed lesson of the previous class, by the 43rd I was breaking lead when the student wrote that the poets had "concocted imagery" and employed "religious illusions".
