heavy metal

Fast, heavy guitar riffs, relatively easy bass riffs, double-pedal drumming, insane guitar solos (the good ones are in the right key), usually non-talented vocalists that put on a show to make up for it. Started with Sabbath, which was close to classic rock, then brought to life by Metallica. Since then it has broken into many types, such as thrash (speed), nu-metal, death-metal, black metal, and it pretty much gets worse as the list goes on. Overall not a bad type of music, but lets face it thrash metal died at the end of the 80s.

Steve: Heavy metal kicks ass because of insanely loud guitar riffs and headache inducing drum beats!!

Jimbo: That's why it sucks too.

heavy metal

a style of music that is very misunderstood by many people, sort of like....almost everybody on this site
There are many different kinds of metal, not just the pussy make-up, high heels and shitty cheesy lyrics glam rock or hair metal or whatever you want to call it. Real heavy metal is like Metallica, Megadeth, no makeup, no hairspray, just bandmembers kicking ass. Bands who create this kind of metal are extrememly talented. Metallica has sweet complex guitar riffs and solos that can be very fast, or very nice and melodic and also some of the best lyrics around, out of just about every genre. Don't stereo type metal as bullshit Def Lepard or Motley Crue

Megadeth
Slayer
Metallca
Just avoid Rap all together, i don't even want to start on that crap

Metal Elitist

A Metal Elitist is a fan of metal music who denigrates the tastes of other metal heads and considers their own to be intellectually superior. Metal Elitists regard any band with a degree of commercial success as being “not real metal,” and consider any fans of such bands “posers.” There is a crossover between the Metal Elitist and Neckbeard personas, as both such persons regard themselves as far smarter than their peers, disparage the tastes of “normies,” and do not regard women as “real” fans of their respective subcultures. The stereotypical Metal Elitist is a single, mid-30’s male who only listens to bands with illegible, scratchy logos and, like the stereotypical Neckbeard, lives in his mother’s basement eating junk food and posting on message boards. As stated previously, Metal Elitists have strong opinions about what “real metal” is, usually considering subgenres like deathcore and metalcore to be particularly offensive, in no small part due to their commercial success, younger and female fan bases, and emphasis on looks and fashion. Their own favorite bands are almost always underground, not necessarily because of the quality of the music, but because their obscure status, which to the Metal Elitist, makes them more “trve” than bands with name recognition. At their most extreme, Metal Elitists will try to one up each other by claiming to like less and less of a band’s catalog, to the point that some claim to “only like the first album” or even “only like the demo.”

“Lol, is that a Slipknot shirt? You know that’s not even real metal, right? I bet you can’t even name five of their songs.”

“Oh sorry, I didn’t realize you were a Metal Elitist.”

metal head

As being labeled as metal head recently i figured i'd add another definition to this place.
We (metal heads) genreally just dress in clothes from regular stores like kohls, i myself usually just wear lee's jeans and a shirt. knowing that me and my friends are all the same there is no size chart, i myself am pretty small i have a huge friend who is also a metal head. We're quiet but hate pretty much everyone who says things to us. While i have nothing against all people from these stereotypes there are a few dumb enough to fuck with us, skaters and jocks usually. me and my personal group hate emo guys don't mind emo girls or any goths. not all of us rebel i go to school cut classes rarely. i'm an alright student b's usually. we're (my group of friends) are small (about 5 of us) and hate pretty much everything. Honestly it doesn't matter what metal you listen to it's just the effect. i personally do listen to slipknot and korn, even some disturbed.. also amon amarth and dragonforce things from my heritage (hate to say it but most of us are "tribal" decent german, norweigan, czech). if you sit here and bitch about how i'm not a metal head, well go for it. in reality if you judge us by our music and say we're fakes...well we'll just beat you to death, why? because as other people have said the lyrics go in one ear and out the other it's the hate that we care about. I am a "mixed" my hair is to shoulders i am clean shaven. some of us like animals but like i said personal view, we aren't into the cute little fuzzy animals, i have 2 cats both of which i rescued from the wild (i prefer animals to people) whom i have trained to kill other small animals. while some of us do infact wear spikes i usual am seen wearing a ring my girlfriend gave me a leather coat and jeans and a t-shirt (as previously stated). we are tough we are mostly good fighters because we go insane and just don't think in fights making us more efficent to cause damage. i am usually slow to anger but my wrath is incredible. genreally we do protect our on kind but i have been known to help out "nerds" or "goths" sometimes it's because i don't mind you others it's because i need a good fight. and for those of you who have asked me where i learned to fight like that, we don't get taught by anyone we just brawl it till we win and a lil exp isn't bad either. i'm not gonna tell you if your metal or not because it's just up to you. oh and the person who said we carry around knives, we do usually a pocket or sailor knife when i have to go places like school, but in public i carry around a hunting knife.

Metal head1 : YOUR SO NOT METAL YOU LISTEN TO SLIPKNOT FAG!
ME: bro just shut the fuck up it's my hate an besides only one being a fag is the one trying to label gtfo

skater kid1: hehe look at him he's so gay leather coat i bet we can take him
smart skater kid: bro it's not worth getting your ass beat just leave them alone.

me: I really hate it when those idiots on urban dictionary make us seem like douche bags
friend: agreed, half of them talk big but they are probably like the kids that just tried to mug us
me: haha that was fun wasn't it?

Glam Metal

Glam Metal/Rock, also known by the MTV term "Hair Metal", is, contrary to popular belief, a Rock N' Roll fashion statement, and not a genre.

The first band to use it were the finnish Hard Rock band Hanoi Rocks, and was made popular in the 80's by Mötley Crüe, but the whole concept behind it was probably influenced by KISS.

Glam Metal/Rock bands are neither more nor less than just Hard Rock or traditional Heavy Metal bands.

Glam Metal/Rock bands that are, or were atleast at some point, Heavy Metal:
- Twisted Sister
- Dokken
- Quiet Riot
- Mötley Crüe
- Icon
- W.A.S.P.
- Seduce

Glam Metal/Rock bands that are Hard Rock:
- RATT
- Cinderella
- Poison
- Britny Fox
- Warrant
- Guns N' Roses
- Bon Jovi
