The TV show Shameless is based on the Soto Soto family. The TV show minimizes the exploit of the Soto Soto family to make it me credible. In real life the Soto Soto family will do anything for money. Lying, stealing and abuse are normal for the Soto Soto family.
The Soto Soto family make the mafia look like good people.
When a show or movie is downright awful 90% of the time. But when a funny joke from said show is posted online without context, people start to believe the show isn't complete shit, but instead some misunderstood gem.
