Heavy metal is a louder, way better version of rock and roll, created mainly by Black Sabbath and later revolutionized by Metallica and other bands from that era. Today, the best metal bands are 5 man bands consisting of 2 guitars, 1 bass, vocals and drums(such as Lamb of God and Devil Driver). The 2 guitars play the main tune, while the bass guitar plays a deeper, underlying tune that compliments the guitar and also the drummer's beats. Guitar in heavy metal goes from one end of the scale to the other, and good metal riffs are complex, awesome sounding and difficult to play. Therefore, metal guitarists are some of the most skilled guitarists. Drummers play fast, energizing beats usually incorperating a double bass. Metal drummers are also very skilled and adept at using double bass kickers. Vocals are usually not sung because heavy metal is loud, and you have to scream to make yourself heard over the music(also, screaming fits with the powerful and energetic sound of heavy metal - singing just doesn't sound right sometimes). So before you stereotype heavy metal into evil and satanic music, at least take a moment to appreciate the awesome music that is HEAVY METAL!!! \m/ 0_0 \m/
Awesome metal bands include Lamb of God(Burn the Priest), Metallica, Black Sabbath, Slayer, DevilDriver, As I Lay Dying, BloodShotEye, Chimaira, In Flames and Trivium.

A metal head is a person who loves metal music. Some of them may dress a certain way, such as blue/black jeans and extremely often band shirts. They only wear band shirts of bands they love and are talented. After the 80's, metal went downhill and became a lot less common. Most play a musical instrument, ELECTRIC guitar, especially flying V's, as well as bass guitar, drums, etc.
Metal: Old Metallica, Iron Maiden, Slayer, Megadeth, Dragonforce, Children of Bodom, Pantera, Iced Earth, Dream Theater, Venom, Exodus, Death, Kreator, Black Sabbath & Ozzy, Motorhead, Testament, Judas Priest, Hammerfall, Sonata Arctica, Grim Reaper, etc.
NOT metal: Slipknot, Korn, Disturbed, etc.

It supposedly "combines rap and rock," and does so simply by taking away all of the elements that make either genre the least bit interesting.

is metal that evolved off mixing with different technics, hardly uses any guitar solos, the vocals are usually screaming or whining, and most of it sucks. You are better of listening to real metal such as Black Sabbath, Megadeth, Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest and other Real Metal than this Nu-metal shit.
Linkin Park, Limp Biskit, Slipknot, Korn, Mudvayne, System of a Down(the only good Nu-Metal band)

Dear god how prejudice are you people...
First off bands like metallica, and iron maiden are not nu metal. Now I will say something and be least offencive as possible.
Nu Metal has become really really mainstream and i understand why most of it is hated. Yes it is very popular among the youth but some adults like me enjoy it as well. Bands such as static-x dont bring that "My parents hate me shit" into it. And what you people have done to this genre is what i could do with whatever shit you listen to. So stop being so prejudice and if you dont like it shut the fuck up unless your asked your opinion.
Bands that use control over vocal screams unlike black metal which all the vocalists sound like the vocalist to lamb of god.
Black metal = Americanised Death Metal
Real Death Metal is found in europe but the bands are too crazy to be let loose in america.
