Los Angeles is very possibly the greatest city on Earth, actually it is, at the very least, the most influential city on Earth. It is the center of U.S. culture, "pop" culture anyway, which is what is most important these days. U.S. culture spreads though the world via film and TV, nearly all of which is conceived and produced in L.A.
A teen watches some L.A. conceived and created movie/TV show once and she/he can be completely moved into certain purchasing modes, political modes, and general lifestyle views.

Like it or hate it, L.A. is "IT". There is no cooler city in the U.S. or the world.... there is no hipper city.

An interesting city with tons of cultural events, concerts, great museums, tons of ethnic diversity, the epitome of "multicultural".
The only thing L.A. lacks is a great public transit system. Yes, L.A. has zillions of bus lines but busses share the road with cars and this makes them innefficient.
Los Angeles is a micro-cosom of the world, except GET MORE DAMN TRAINS, YOUR TRAFFIC IS HORRIBLE.

The most influential city in the world. Modern culture is ruled by TV and film and L.A. is the global leader in these areas (and music also, shared 60/40 with New York).
L.A. is the capital of culture.
