Hoodie's Law

When a comrade attempts to give evidence to support their claim, that evidence will invariably result in supporting the claim of their capitalist opposition.

All commies fall to Hoodie's Law

Monster in law

A clingy and possessive mother or father in law who tries to interfere with son/daughters relationship. They will take any measure, most common is manipulation, to turn their son or daughter against their own partner. Monster in laws say things behind your back, will blame every problem on you, will purposely try to get your angry and will try to make you feel uncomfortable. Their behaviour is usually triggered when they feel like they're losing their "baby" and will do anything to prevent them from leaving home or moving in with somebody else.

Mother (monster in law): Let's buy a car together! Lets save up, both you and I. I'll sell my ___ for it that way we will both have a car we can use together. We should redecorate your room too. Does that sound good Sweety? That would be so good for us.

Dallan's law

Dallan's law is an epigram that is typically stated as: "If angle looks like 90 degrees, then it is 90 degrees."

The law is often followed by mistake in math where someone assumes that an angle in a triangle is 90 degrees so they can use rules that only can be applied to right triangles.

"90 degrees" can sometimes be a metaphor for something else e.g., "If someone sees a car as red, then it is red". This means that a thing can be perceived as something else even though it is obvious that it only can be one thing. A washing machine can therefore be perceived as a rocket launcher if that person is stupid enough.

Example 1:

David: Why do I get the wrong answer when I use the Pythagorean theorem?

Teacher: Beacause it does not contain a right triangle. You probably utilized Dallan's law.

Example 2:

David: What a nice avocado you got there!

ร…sa: Thanks David, but that's a potato. I guess you're right though according to Dallan's law.

Down by Law

According to Jim Jarmusch, director of the film by this name: "Down by law, at the time in the mid-80s, was kind of in use on the streets as meaning a very close connection with somebody. If somebody was down by law, they were close to you or you would protect them. I know that, earlier, in prison slang, if somebody was down by law, and they got out before you, they would contact your family or look after people outside if you needed them to. So it meant something very close or a code. I really liked the contradiction of that, being something that sounds like being oppressed by the law, which of course under that condition is where the slang came from. So, I liked that contradiction of it. And I liked it also in terms of the film being contradictory in that they are oppressed by the law but they also become down by law with each other."

Jimmy ain't gonna rat on me. We're down by law.

lovejoy's law

An appeal to "please think of the children". Often used to justify shitty laws. Named after The Simpson's Helen Lovejoy who was always imploring others to please think of the children.

US Government: "We need access to your encrypted smartphone."

Troggie42: "Not gonna happen."

US Government: "But a child could die if we can't scour your phone!"

Troggie42: "Lovejoy's Law, buddy. It means your law is horseshit."

Pinkham's Law

No matter how big an asshole in an article may be, someone will always step in to defend the asshole

I want to post a collection of stories about all of the ridiculous conversations I've had while working in customer service, but I'm worried I'm going to get a lot of Pinkham's Law responses.
