A genre of music that died around 1996, contrary to what any blue haired fifteen yr old will tell you.
Punk Rock originally had a three chord sound. Everyone knew that the music was not important as the message. Sid Vicious was never known as the best player of the 70s or of any era, but everyone knew who the Sex Pistols were.
True punk rock bands include (but are not limited to): Sex Pistols, Black Flag, Ramones, Youth Brigade, Bad Brains, DK (pre-1987), Descendents, Minor Threat, Fugazi, 7 Seconds, Bad Religion, Sub Society, and Teen Idols.
Examples of "punk" rock, only by record label classification: Good Charlotte, Blink 182, Simple Plan, Avril Lavigne, No Doubt (yes, I once had someone tell me they are punk. Yes, you may laugh too), 311, and The All American Rejects.
Kid1: Dude, I am so punk because I wear a Good Charlotte wordhoodie/word, a mesh wordtrucker hat/word that I bought at the mall and have every Blink 182 CD, including the bootlegs.
Kid2: No, that makes you a fucking tool.
Kid1: But I want to be punk. How can I be punk?
Kid2: In the words of Jello: "Punk ain't no religious cult,punk means thinking for yourself. You ain't hardcore cause you spike your hair, when a jock still lives inside your head."

A genre of music that truely did start it all. Though good music, most all of it's followers are elitist retards who put down all other forms of music, and promote their own.
Classic rock, the root of all music, might appeal to me if it weren't boasted about as the "best music ever, and much better then whatever music you listen to!"

A silly sub-"genre" of music created by radio. Unfortunately, the radio format does not live up to its name, as most of these classic rock stations play music by bands that are more "dated" than "classic". Also, most classic rock stations neglect to play classic punk or classic metal, opting to play pop rock and hair metal bands, that, as mentioned above, are more dated than classic. Unfortunately, listening to classic rock radio is somewhat of a neccesary evil in order to get acquainted with some of the timeless bands that have sprung out of rock's past. However, as illustrated in the example, it is hard at first for an ear that is mainly weaned on MTV commercial bands to distinguish the difference between dated and classic, as many dated bands have the same instant appeal as today's mainstream bands have as well.
Classic rock noob: I love Led Zeppelin, Motley Crue, Styx, and Pink Floyd!
Seasoned rock veteran: Be very glad I do not have a good memory.
Classic rock noob: What's wrong with Motley Crue and Styx? They have guitar solos!

Seasoned rock veteran: Now that's more like it! You still listen to classic rock radio?
No longer classic rock noob: Nah, they play too many shit bands like Poison and Bon Jovi! I use the Internet now to find and listen to bands.

Classic rock fanboys, there is no reason not to expand and improve your musical tastes in this day and age. Quit being so closed minded.

In corporate speak, it refers to an management or executive "pet project" that may or my not warrant the current level of attention or investment were it not for their personal support. It may mean that the executive has a personal stake in the success of the pet rock initiative and will not allow the perception of "failure", regardless of its actual merit.
