The employees usually have no idea what they're doing, and are too busy gettin' served by one another to care. When one group or organization writes a check or pays money on behalf of another, usually unaffiliated group or organization, after which the original organization is reimbursed by the latter organization or group, essentially "zeroing" or canceling the balance exactly.
United Way of America zeroed a check for us to pay off the rental fees because we are unaffiliated with them.
