Series of books that is getting a lot more criticism than it really needs. Sure, the plots or the writing can be peurile, but I think saying that they are a waste of time that could be spent understanding "true works of literature" is bullshit. Enjoy your books, unless you happen to be a high school english teacher and assign what the "critics" (a.k.a., 60 year old men who couldn't find a better job) claim is classic and complex.

A character from the well known series by JK Rowling. The stories center around Harry who was nearly killed by an infamous wizard named Voldemort (He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named/You-Know-Who) when he was a baby. Instead, Voldemort was stripped of his powers but not before he killed Harry's parents. The books are his adventures through the wizarding school Hogwarts with his best friends Hermione Granger and Ronald Weasley.
The series of books so far are:
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
The books are currently being made into movies. The last installment is supposedly due out in 2007.

The greatest book series in the world.
A hell lot more literate than the new 'Twilight' series that people seem to be gaggling over. Be aware that they are two completely different novels, and it's no use comparing the two, as Harry Potter is simply perfect literature, and Twilight is damaging the world of literature.

not good, not bad, just plain average literature. has no real artistic merit and nothing new to say about life, but at least it gets children reading.

Childs book series. I've read them all, and don't recall a single incident of swearing, whoever said 'they curse more than my older brother' what the fuck? Is your older brother a nun? Good for getting little kids to read. Anyone who has ever read a real book and picks up Harry Potter expecting an adults book will feel insulted by their conescendingly simple plotlines, underdeveloped characters and childish language.

An excellently written series of seven books from the author J.K. Rowling, following the journey of Harry Potter and his two best friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. Most often criticized by people who consider them "childish". However, these books contain substance (unlike many other fantasy novels for children and teens. *cough* Twilight *cough*) and they have an excellent plot that keeps the readers entertained and enthralled. This series should be considered the most influential series to hit bookshelves in the past 20 years.

over-rated series of books about kids who do magic and battle bad guys.
They are incredibly popular and are often compared with Lord of The Rings
