There are many misconceptions that exist in our society regarding the metrosexual male. The term, metrosexual, describes a fad and is not a social status. A metrosexual male is an individual who believes that wearing tight designer clothing gives him social status. Contrary to popular beliefs, many metrosexuals that emulate this style are living at the poverty level or with their parents. In fact, many metrosexuals are financially dependent and barely have a high school education. As a result, a lot of the metrosexuals work at menial jobs (e.g. waiter, cubical worker, and customer service representative). In addition, many overdress for the type of labor that they do, which can give others a false impression of sophistication and success. Sophistication is a word that is commonly misused by the laymen. This word describes an individual, who is well-educated, worldly, refined, cultured, and of high social status. Therefore, being sophisticated does not mean wearing tight designer clothing, drinking martinis, carrying a laptop, drinking lattes, going to upscale nightclubs, working out, plucking ones eyebrows, etc. Again, I want to emphasize and clarify that anyone can follow the metrosexual trend, but not everyone is sophisticated.

A guy who is a Metrosexual may be into the following things: Moisturizing; face peels; concealers; antiwrinkle cream; lip moisturizers; powder/foundation - to even out skin tones; clear/tinted eyebrow gel; clear mascara - to keep lashes in place; may use a light color eyebrow pencil - to make then more pronounced and stand out; may wear light brown (natural shades of eyeshadow); waxes/plucks eyebrows; highlights/perms his hair; uses shine products in his hair; may have earrings in both ears; shaves: arms, legs, bikini, area toes underarms, may polish or buff his nails - or wear clear black grey blue or copper colors, thumb rings, ankle bracelets, toerings, has a love for lotions and body sprays (Bath & Body works), may have his nipples pierced, has different sunglasses to match his outfits, has a passion for slide sandals in multiple colors - so he can show his pedicure off, has belts to match his shoes. Has a different cologne for every day of the week. Has a major love for shoes, loves to shop, understands why a woman has 20 pairs of black shoes.

an male, typically found in urban settings, that does not conform to historically "macho" standards of masculenity. while this includes haircults, wine tastes, clothing style, and all the rest, it is often neglected that metrosexuality is so much bigger than that: metrosexuals are free to watch sex in the city, give hugs, compliment other people in non-sexual ways, and have even been known to cry. this is the dawning of aquarious.
i'm proud to be a metrosexual -- even though i may never be as quite stylish as some of my gay friends, i have both male and female non-sexual friends and drive an audi.
