A scandalous event which occurred sometime during 2010 at a local Canadian athletic club in the capital region, in which an elderly man reportedly made offensive remarks to female club members of varying ages. Of notability was a remark made to an underage female (less than 18 years of age), whose parents later filed a formal complaint. Shortly thereafter the man was allegedly banned from the club, and the term "shadophile" was coined.

The sign stealing scandal got the attention of a lot of people, it distracted them from what the elite who are not part of any sports organization were doing with their money, and with their own time.
A bunch of drama created to get people talking about and paying attention to baseball again, to get better TV ratings.
If TV ratings were good, nobody would hear anything about a sign stealing scandal.
