Said to acknowledge someone else's explanation of something and thank them for it, with the added undertone of acknowledging that yeah now that you think about it, really that should have been obvious all along and you were being stupid for even asking the question in the first place.
An early (and possibly the first) appearance of the phrase, with this undertone, occurs in a joke in the 1992 episode "Holoship" of British sci-fi comedy TV series Red Dwarf, with the following exchange:
The Cat : Why don't we drop the defensive shields?
Kryten : A superlative suggestion, sir. With just two minor flaws. One, we don't have any defensive shields. And two, we don't have any defensive shields. Now I realise that technically speaking that's only one flaw but I thought that it was such a big one that it was worth mentioning twice.
The Cat : Good point, well made.
Alice: Are you coming round to my house tonight?
Bob: No, I'm away on holiday. I told you yesterday.
Alice: Good point well made.
When a person solves a simple problem with a complicated, expensive, or unnecessary response. This phrase is to be said after a somewhat satisfying solution is made and in a sarcastic tone. Usually, the provided solution does not offer a permanent solution to the original problem, making their sacrifices pointless.
Person 1: “I was eating spaghetti earlier and I didn’t have a clean fork, so I made one out of toothpicks and the tip of a spoon I broke to make it.”
Person 2: “So you didn’t just wash a dirty fork, but instead made one? Well Dumb.”
When you are finished with a conversation and want to just give up the whole convo...
You know, that is how it goes, Oh, well...
A greeting similar to "take care".
Has two separate origins:
One from old Hebrew, and Yiddish where taken from a common greetings literal translation to "be well"
The other is coined from the movie "Demolition man" meant to sound like an evolution of slang that was meant to sound strange to contemporary viewers.
However the movie was a popular cult classic and the slang became commonly used in the following years, until the term became a common contemporary email signature in popular culture today.
