In reality: A nation of people, some live up to the stereotype, some don't, some live up to the american dream, that is: work hard, but alot of stuff and you'll be happy, but not all. The American culture is a loose conglameration of many different cultures, centering on european cultures because of the "melting pot" philosophy
To those of you who dislike America, think of this: Hypocrisy is to tote beleifs you yourself do not have, to say all americans are arrogant, stupid, proud is itself and arrogant, stupid and proud notion. Thus you either think these actions are great or are a hypocrite.
Americans do love their country, even with it's faults, but don't most of us love our country of origin? And don't all countries have faults?

That being said, an american is generally referred to someone being from the US. We have qualities that are BOTH good and bad, just like people from EVERY nation in the world. Remember that, dickheads who keep making generalizations about our country.
Americans have both good and bad qualities, and not every one of us fits the stereotype non-americans have of us.
