The agency had been mistreating them for years, not giving them promotions, not restocking their albums, not protecting them from stalkers, and the list goes on. All 7 members collectively terminated their contract with the agency, stayed together as a group, all while taking all rights of their album, music, etc from their agency.
No kpop group in history has ever done this before, which is why the act of leaving your agency with rights to all your content, all while staying together as a group is called "pulling a GOT7".
