Mostly they use it in a "Who's a stronger anime character" conversation, even tho it's only a conversation between the anime show, they will still try to prove to everyone that Goku is the strongest anime character by saying "Goku solos"

it can also be used for sarcasm to insult brain-dead dragon ball fans.
