set in stone

Colloquial description of an item (document, schedule, contract, etc.) that cannot be altered without great effort (and possibly some destructiveness) for one reason or another.

Probably derived from how the ten commandments (Exodus 22:* in your bible) were produced on stone tablets, as it requires effort to modify a document that is etched into stone.

See also set in jello for a good opposite.

Once you sign the contract, the terms are set in stone.

Drum Set

A drum set is a configuration of different sized drums, generally consisting of a snare drum, bass drum, and three toms.

There are two different set styles, the most common being the rock configuration. These have 12, 14, and 16 inch toms, usually a 22" bass drum, 14" snare, and 14" hi-hats. The other set-up is the fusion configuration. The toms are 10, 12, and 14 inches, the bass drum is usually 18", and hi-hats are generally 13 inches.

The rock configuration uses the bigger and deeper toms for a more full effect, a taller bass drum for a more "punchier" feel, and 14" hi-hats for a controlled splash. Some rock sets even have larger toms, so that there are 2 floor toms.

Fusion sets, most commonly used for jazz, on the other hand, have smaller toms to create less of a punch, but the toms are only 2 inches apart from each other, so they are more uniform. The Smaller bass drum and hi-hats are used for a controlled, responsive feel.

While drumming may just look like random smashing that takes no talent whatsoever, this is completely untrue. Drumming is in fact a talent, as it takes great co-ordination to have all four of your limbs doing different actions at once. Drummers also have to have great timing, since they are the driving force in a band's backbone.

A drum set is a necessity to any band

The Summer Set

A rock/pop/indie band straight out of Arizona. Brian Dales on vocals, John Gomez on guitar, Jessica Bowen on drums, Stephen Gomez on bass, and Josh Montgomery on guitar. Their ages range from 18-20 and they are enthusiastic, have tons of energy, and love meeting their fans. Bring them food if you see them on tour, they often have the munchies. If you ever have a problem, blame it on Brian, he deserves it.

Fangirl 1: "Hey did you see The Summer Set last night?!"
Fangirl2: "Yeah! I brought them hummus and they ate it all!"

Setting the Feldman

Being adequate, satisfactory or normal in any characteristic, circumstance or scenario. The only exception is for good looks, for which the Feldman sets the highest standard, almost unachievable by regular human beings.

In law, the standard of the Reasonably Prudent Feldman has replaced the now outdated Negligence standard.

I got a C on my test today; my professor said I really set the Feldman on it.

I came in 5th out of 10 bowlers in my tournament, and took home the Feldman award.

I've got a decent job, a mid-sized suburban home, a wife and 2.5 kids - I'm really setting the Feldman right now.

Wow, things really got out of hand there for a while! But things are finally starting to return to Feldman again....

DID YOU SEE THAT GIRL AT THE BAR?! There' s no way I even have a chance with her...she totally sets the Feldman!
