Drive-by Friendship

The act of suddenly and quickly encountering an old acquaintance or friend (you may or may not remember), who you have not spoken to in a long time. However, the person greets you and speaks to you as if you have been close friends the entire time before leaving in a hurry.

Person on the street: "Hey man! How's it going? How are your classes? Are you still seeing that girl? We should hang out more. Give me a text or call me. Seriously, let's hang out later! Bye!"

You: "What the...who was that? Sheesh, I hate drive-by friendship!"

Jilted friendship

A friendship in which one person, male or female establishes some form of attraction with their friend I.e falling in love, liking someone more than a friend. Most jilted friendships end in a negative outcome for the jiltee (the person with the feelings). This is due to internal factors such as jealousy when seeing their "beloved" friend hanging out with others of the oppposite sex or dating them. Being the jiltee is harmful socially as well because as one wastes their time hanging out and hoping their friend they like with their common interests might eventually like them back and date them they lose out on many opportunities to have dated others whom may have liked them which actually were looking for the origional desired purpouse of having a relationship and not friendship. The end result is one friend breaking the friendship with the other because things got weird or they don't share common feelings of being more than just friends. This then leaves the jiltee lonley realizing they wasted their time and should have taken the opportunity to have dated others and missing out on the chance of having probably had a relationship and been married even so by that time.

Ken is in a jilted friendship with his friend Tara. Because of this Natalie will never be able to date her crush Ken as he perceives himself not to be a single person cause of Tara.

Friendship betrayal

When you're friends with someone and you do something including, but not limited to: giving someone the silent treatment, spray-painting their car, not calling/texting you for an extended period, giving away secrets, burning a holiday dish and hiding it in your attic, deleting the contents of your DVR, and/or deleting you on a social network.

-"Thanks for ignoring me at work after we talked for seven hours last night, friendship betrayer."
-"Well you had a party and didn't invite me, so actually, you are the one committing frienship betrayal."

The state of being "friends" with a woman that you are physically attracted to.

The place where men go while waiting for a woman friend to accept them as a partner, lover, boyfriend or husband.

I am in love with your sister, but she does not know it. She told me she would rather be friends. I agreed. So for now, I am stuck in the friendship graveyard.

electronic friendship

A friendship that is defined by communication ONLY via electronic devices. i.e. AIM, facebook, myspace, text messages, etc.
*phone calls may be an occasional part of an electronic friendship, however they are very uncommon.

Electronic friendships are typically found among high school or college students, who may even attend the same high school or college, yet choose to ignore one another in passing. The conversation remains smooth and concise via electronic devices, however face-to-face contact of any sort proves that a real friendship is truly not a possibility, and the awkward moments never cease to exist.

*an intimate relationship comprising of cyber sex and text message sex is not does not fall under the category of electronic friendship.

Joanne: You and CarlyBeth have such an electronic friendship. Do you two ever actually hang out?

Olivia: Umm, I dunno, I guess we both have our own cliques and neither of us want to stray from the norm that has been created for us.... you know?
