The word was probably first used in 1942 by J Saunders Redding, but it is possible that it was used before this. When Redding used it, he intended it to mean stay alert for injustices or discrimination. Unfortunately it is now being used as a tool to discriminate against white people, or anything else that the Chattering Classes, Snowflakes or political opportunists find unacceptable.

An example of being woke means you believe Nazis, KKK, and various other racist organizations became racist because they read Dr. Seuss.

Meant to describe how ones Awareness of the vastness of our universe and deep meaning behind every aspect of human life. Has nothing to due with being aware of specifically racism or SJW bullshit. Being Woke is knowing what is actually going on in the world and being able to read between the lines, or even further and reading through the lines.
