This is when a person engaged in an eating competition starts enjoying food they are eating, and their body slows down to savor the flavor, causing them to eat slower, and lose the competition.
Bob: Bill, Crazy Legs is really starting to slow down with the donuts here. What do you think is happening?
Bill: Well Bob, it looks like the willy wonka affect is kicking in. He's enjoying the food instead of seeing it as a barrier. There's no way he is going to break this record today.

When a girl watches/reads too many compositions by Nicholas Sparks and expects every man to kiss her in the rain or send her letters while he's in another country professing his love to her.
Kiley had the Nicholas Sparks affect take ahold of her, causing her to break up with her boyfriend because he didn't randomly bring her flowers.

When babies, dogs, kids or other people are so cute, and it becomes so aggravating, that you just want to squeeze them until their eyeballs pop out.
Karla bumped in to old-friend Susie on the street, with her three-month-old, Emmett, decked out in a sailor suit, giggling endlessly. "He is so adorable in that get-up that I just want to slap him," Karla remarked to Susie, who quickly explained that she was suffering from Violent Affection Syndrome (VAS). Susie took Emmett and kept walking down the street.

There's always Pathetic Displays of Affection. These usually occur when one or both parties is irretrievably inebriated. Sometimes followed by convenient memory loss the morning after the night before and/or heavy regret and shame felt by one or both parties.
Almost without fail intoxication-related, Pathetic Displays of Affection can be physical or virtual - in which case, thanks to the miracle of modern technology, they can take the various but inevitably excruciating forms of drunken dialling, texting or even, more permanently so, emailing and instant messaging.
Pedro, spare us all the PDA (Pathetic Displays of Affection) and the ensuing wingeing phone call to me about how mortified you are. There is no world in which it's a good idea to tell this Madeleine girl you just met at the bar that you want to marry her and impregnate her shortly afterwards. Even if she IS a hot blonde blue-eyed Swede.
