Basically, it's "trashy" foolish, irresponsible, or frivolous behavior--that ought to be washed down the gutter--but it is instead--what you're up to with your best friend. Also, just for clarity, you cannot be Doing Gutter Things in places where there are in fact no gutters. You can't do gutter things while camping in the wilderness, for example. Doing Gutter Things takes place in the Urban World, or even worse, the Suburban World. Yeah, for sure, soccer moms can be out Doing Gutter Things. If you're particularly shameless about Doing Gutter Things you might get famous... or become a rap artist.
