the genre where it seems that all new bands playing heavier forms of music gets thrown into. nu metal is metal with a bit of rap in it and maybe elements of other genres. limp bizkit and linkin park beeing two examples. slipknot, is NOT nu metal. slipknot only has tiiiiny elements of rap and they have scratching. but they also have enormously many elements of other sub-genres within metal. industrial, death etc... and for those of you saying nu metal sucks because it's commercialistic and crap, and then go on saying tha cradle of filth and dimmu borgir are real metal, well fuck you! dimmu and cradle are the most commercialist bands within the black metal genre. maybe not the old stuff but very much the new shit... maybe not easy for people in the US to know but if you live in like norway you know if you're a fan of metal. dimmu even had a commercial on tv..bwah..

Nu-metal is simply a genre of music and I want to make a point to all of you people who think it is stupid and automatically makes anyone who listens to it a poser or mallgoth who is just depressed because they have no friends or seeking attention and wants to rebel against their parents. You don't have to listen because I'm not going to shove it down your throats like you do to others.
Let's pretend okay:

Okay so now lets stop pretending. I listen to nu-metal and I have never claimed any label. And I DO like to shop at hot topic. Not because I am rebellious and attention seeking. I prefer to stay out of the limelight. I like the clothes, the style, the people, the atmosphere. Anybody who says that everybody there are all depressed attention seeking cutters with no sense of humor obviously has never been in Hot Topic. Just a few weeks ago I was in there and I met the greatest guy. He was so funny had a great sense of style (which was by the way not exactly typical of hot topic.) And he was not at all depressed.
I like the mall. I can get cheap cd's there, which is good cause I'm poor.
So listening to the sex pistols can't make a prep a punk. How does liking the things i do make me a poser? The answer is simple. I never claimed to be anything, therefore I am not posing as anything. I am not the one who calls myself punk or gothic. It's my peers. So basically I ambeing judged for what my friends think.
now I ask you is that what you think I am, a poser?
Isn't it sad that nowadays our character is judged by what music we like and the clothes we wear.
If you don't like what I like or what I wear say so. But don't judge me as a person because chances are I don't like what you like or wear either.
I don't listen to nu-metal in particular. I like all bands with guitars and talent.

whoever said nu metal is happier than real metal is a moron. nu metal is all about being sad because your parents hate you for dressing and singing like a fag. who can blame them?

Nu Metal is suppossed to be the 'new metal' of the new age. Mixing lots of pop-culture into their music and image. Speaking of image, that's basically all they're based around, image. One band that sticks out in my mind is Slipknot. Probably one of the most popular nu metal bands, but as all nu metal bands do, they suck. They're not innovative in any way whatsoever. These bands can hardly play guitar, and most people proclaim the drumming is incredible, when really it isn't at all. Some people also proclaim that the 'new' Slipknot has wonderful and fast guitar solos, but no, they don't have even one. And their most complicated riffs aren't even complicated at all. Anyway, the genre is mostly loved by people who have a wonderful life but for some reason think their life is shit. So they go throughout their life acting depressed, but when someone asks why they're depressed they either say 'Well, because my life sucks.' or 'My parents are the worst.' But in reality they have good lives and their parents are the some of the best. Or they're just spoiled so much to hell and back that they don't know anything. You 'nu metal' bastards need to quit listening to your Slipknot and go listen to some Megadeth, or a real metal band that has talent. Such as Megadeth, as I said before, Opeth, And Oceans, At The Gates, Thyrfing, Rhapsody, Dimmu Borgir, or Children of Bodom. Don't just listen to the damn same shit all over again like all these new nu metal bands that the record companies keep shooting out their ass every month. All the bands sound exactly the same, like I said before, they're not innovative whatsoever.
Person 1: Hey I'm depressed, and my parents treat me like shit.
Person 2: Oh no, another life ruined by nu metal! Hurry little man, lets bring you to charter before it's too late!
Person 1: But I've been listening to Slipknot for over a year now.
Person 2: Sweet jesus!! *shoots him* That poor boy, he was so young, but yet so corrupted... CURSE YOU NU METAL!! *raises fist*

Subgenre of rock that often involves elements of hip-hop (sometimes) and hard rock that ends up coming out with a beat and riff mixed music masterpeice that is popular among people who aren't jealous of success. Nu-metal often involves the most post-work in rock because of extra elements besides the same guitar-bass-drum-singer combo.
Some nu-metal rock artists include Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, System of a Down, etc.

Classified by some people to be any rock band that sounds sorta hard and gets MTV and radio play. Much of it IS unoriginal and contains meaningless repetitive lyrics but that doesn't mean all nu-metal sucks. Unimaginative doesn't equal untalented. Sounding similar doesn't necessarily equal cookie cutter pattern. Some is all of the above but if you like it, then that's your choice. Songs like Headstrong by Trapt are pretty catchy, though.
Apparently it's cool to hate the mainstream and nu-metal is no exception.
