It's common in Vietnam when optic cables are regularly broken every year and even throughout the year.
When you see a Vietnamese say this word, it means that the internet bandwidth is fucked, and not only gamers, a whole country is frustrated with it. Even when Viettel is the largest ISP in Vietnam.
So, whenever you go online and suddenly see someone saying the word or something that's likely the word, you know the context.

1. Interiezione affettuosa
Roman slang. Usata principalmente per chiamare un amico stretto, un fratello, o qualcuno con cui si ha un legame familiare o pseudo-familiare. "Ao" è una tipica esclamazione romana simile a "hey", mentre "cu’" è un’abbreviazione fonetica di "cugino". In questo uso, "ao cu'" è un saluto caldo e confidenziale, spesso usato per segnalare complicità, fratellanza, o anche solo per attirare l’attenzione in maniera amichevole.
2. Esclamazione volgare o di frustrazione
In alcuni contesti può essere un'esclamazione improvvisa, volgare, simile a un’imprecazione, specialmente in zone dove il suono "cu’" può ricordare (o voler mimare) il termine “dio cane” o altre bestemmie modificate. Qui il tono cambia completamente: non è più un richiamo amichevole, ma piuttosto un’esplosione di fastidio, stupore o rabbia.
