A system that, while looking fine on paper, has yet to be implemented correctly. The base ideology is that all industry and property is controlled by the state, which in turn provides most things to the people. Historically communist states were/are controlled by a dictator like Joseph Stalin or Kim Jong-il, who attempts to generate a cult of personality and downplay the negative traits of their state. Although calling themselves Marxist-Leninist, many of these states are degenerated totalitarian dictatorships, where the common people are subject to mass surveillance and everything is heavily censored. Currently the only communist states left are China, Cuba, North Korea, Laos, and Vietnam.
Mao and Stalin have each racked up death tolls upwards of 50 million people, in the name of creating the "utopian" state of communism envisioned by Karl Marx.

A system of government that eliminates privately owned property and the caste system; making everyone equal. A great idea on paper, but unfortunately, never works in the real world b/c someone gets power hungry.
Mostly hated by Americans who are grown up from birth being told that Communists are evil; because their capitalist government wants to remain in control.
Unfortunately, there has never been a true working communism that follows it's ideal; someone always gets power hungry and turns it from a communism into something of a dictatorship.

Something that works on paper, but real life corrupts, and stalin was in fact a facist. he just never figured it out.
come to think of it, the same has happened to:
democracy (bush steals election)
Republic (rome burned)
Capitalism (the depression)
Facism (guess)
Despotism (saddam hussein bomed out of existence)
all forms of government have, in fact, become corrupted so far. except anarchy, but so what?
basically, communism would work if there is a totally honest cabinet running it. go figure.

A well-intended theory of social organisation based on a centalized economy and complete social equality. In practice it proves to be just as given to totalitarianism as capitalism and fascism because it enshrines hierarchy rather than destroying it. Alternatives: see anarchism.
Former Soviet Union. Was quasi-Communist for 70 years until people got fed up. Now it's 'democratic' and 'capitalist' because Western corporations got a chance to buy every industry of value in the post-1989 economic vaccuum. Now Russians are even poorer and have no little more freedom than before.

A system where the government owns everything, without exception. An example of communism is the Soviet union where 300billion people were killed each week. In a communist society, you have to share your toothbrush with up to 100 people. You have to live in 300ft² boarding houses with up to 7000 people, and sleep on concrete floors. The only food available is potatoes, and each person gets 1 potato per day.
Famous communists include Barack Obama, Joseph Stalin, Adolf Hitler, Doctor Doom and Sauron from Lord of the Rings.

Communism is a collectivist Utilitarian socio-economic political philosophy. Authoritarian in nature, Communism seeks to abolish private property, social classes, racism, religion, and nationalism. Communist states establish a bureacratic command economy in which the means of production are owned and operated by the state. Thus the main responsibility of the Communist state is to allocate and redistribute resources and products so as to create a society in which all resources are distributed evenly throughout the populous.
The Soviet Union practiced an offshoot of Marxism that can be referred to as Authoritarian Communism.
