dubstep

A genre of underground bass music originally created by people such as Benga, Skream, Plastician and Youngsta. Currently pioneered by people such as J:Kenzo, Distance, District, Kromestar, and Kaiju. Defined by a dark sound, slow tempo, a somewhat consistent, heavy bassline and a drum beat. Made in the UK. Not to be confused with the US dubstep shit pioneered by Skrillex and Datsik etc. Originally came from UK Garage music. Similar to Grime.

Person 1: Hey, you heard that new dubplate by Distance on the new GetDarker episode?

Person 2: Yeah, I really want to get that on vinyl, I love dubstep

What used to be a kickass genre of edm music that changed the way people looked at edm music forever. However, ever since 2014, the genre has gone extremely downhill in terms of quality and style. The genre technically evolved into other types of edm including trap, house, and drum and bass. However, even though we got many new types edm from this, it changed dubstep for the worse.

Me listening to 2012 dubstep: Hell yeah, turn this shit up!
Me listening to 2019 dubstep: What the hell happened to this once great genre?

RIP dubstep 2011-2014

music that wouldn't be all that bad if its fans weren't annoying.

fun to listen to at parties/while on drugs.. not so much fun in other situations. in this aspect, it is similar to hip-hop.

highly overrated, but not horrible.

*at a party*

person 1: this dubstep is pretty fun to dance to and it really makes me want to dance.
person 2: hey man want some drugs?

*hanging out with a friend*

person 1: hey wanna listen to some dubstep?
person 2: no thanks, i would rather listen to something else because those noises are kind of annoying if i'm not high out of my fuckin brain.
