Despite definitions about album labels e.t.c, Indie has become a truly woeful "trend" that emerged during the nineties, characterised mainly by bands with short and uninventive names beginning with "the" and ending with "s". The idea that "indie" kids are intelligent is a myth, purely drumming up discussion that could substitute a donnie darko script.
"Indie" is a condradiction in itself - attempting to be without a label, whilst labelling oneself "indie" at the same time. "Indie" is a trend for the masses, easy to fit in and where everybody looks the same and revolves around a musical taste that is always.... the same.
Various attempts have been made to sub - categorise this type of music to make it sound more interesting.
It could be inferred in this case that "indie" is where nerds find salvation, this idea can be supported in the fact that most indie kids look like a contemporary Austin powers, Simon Amstel or Napoleon Dynamite.
"Indie" girls are normally attractive in appearance, however are up thier own backside and completely caught up in thier trend, most likely be irresistably attracted to males akin to the above.
A sentence spoken by an "indie" kid will most likely contain the words "yeah" "totally" "like" and "legend", accompanied by an annoying laugh.
"Indie" kids, in general, have an appalling sense of humour comprising of terrible in-jokes.
Despite the "indie" versus "emo" debate, it can be set in stone they are as bad as each other.

Indie:
Mutated Preps who have diverged from the "mainstream." Any popular music, art, literature, etc. is automatically dismissed as "mainstream"--even stuff that is slightly popular. Unfortunately, all they have succeeded in doing is branching off and establishing their own separate mainstream.
Indie isn't necessarily considered a genre of music and it's hard for Indie folks to define anything about themselves, because they're so self-righteous and stoned all the time. There is, of course, music of "Indie" and it strives to relinquish itself of any themes or messages that can be found among "goth" listeners, "metalheads," "emos," etc. They think they're "above" everyone else, because they have overcome their "dark" emotions--but what they don't realize is that there is NO SUCH THING as "bad" feelings or emotions; only bad ATTITUDES to emotions--which is precisely what they have.
Indie folks assert that they are "happy" but it is a pretentious and lofty sort of happiness that reeks with pride. If you display any sort of emotional instability in their presence or listen to music that they don't like, you're almost immediately severed from their circle of friends.
If there is one good thing about Indie, however, it's that they give some power to the underground scene and that they are generous with their weed--alas, you cannot smoke with them without hearing their political rants and speeches on how the world ought to be like them.

Originally meaning music that was released by bands on independent labels, "indie" has now come to represent music released by the majors, but marketed towards students and adults who should know better.
Tarquin thought he was cool, because he read the NME, and had heard of a few 'obscure' indie bands. Everyone else thought he should wash more often.

indie is just being independent and walking in school or a job and not like caring much about what other people think of you and u will talk to them untill they will tell you to fuck off and even then u wont really care much anyway. indie kids really listen to bands that no one really knows like the shins and other random stuff!
