shrimp emotions

Shrimp have 12 color receptors while humans only have three (red, green, blue.) Like shrimp can see colors no other see, the person feels they feel things others don't feel.

Person One: I have shrimp emotions. My brain keeps thinking โ€˜gay piratesโ€™ like 20 times a day and thinking way too deeply about lighthouses.

Person Two: Are you talking about Our Flag Means Death? Don't Stede and Ed have such a nice friendship? So glad they made up.

emotional suicide

Attempting to kill one's emotions by partaking in emotionally painful practices or events i.e., drinking heavily and/or watching "The Notebook," after a stressful life event.

Ending your "life" without actually ending your life.

Susy was upset that her husband left her on Christmas Eve for her younger, supermodel sister and therefore drank 2 bottles of wine and committed emotional suicide.

emotional eating

Emotional eating is a disorder. When one feels depressed, sad, incomplete, they eat to fill the hole that is empty within them. Most common food of choice is as follows: Chocolate, mashed potatoes, popcorn, french fries, ICE CREAM, cake, burritos, trail mix, anything one is craving pretty much, etc. You get the idea. It is a vicious cycle that does not seem to quit until one finds happiness again through other means than food.

Sally has just been dumped by Jimmy. She feels lost and alone without him. To make herself feel better, she runs out to the nearest supermarket to buy a pint of Ben & Jerrys which she will eat in it's entirety to feel whole again. She has fallen into the trap of emotional eating.

Emotional Constipation

Emotional but unable to express it. Either because of 1.) numbness or 2.) it is socially inappropriate to do so.

1. Bob wants to cry but he just can't for some reason, even though he knows it will make him feel better. Guess he's experiencing some emotional constipation.

2. During the funeral, Jerry wanted to erupt into laughter but knew that it would be socially-inappropriate. She was emotionally-constipated.

emotional miser

A person who doesn't give much to others on an emotional level. He or she may be socially adept and charming and quite generous in other ways, but not when it comes to investing love and trust and friendship in fellow human beings. It could be a form of self-defense or it could be a kind of selfishness, or both. The pop cultural consensus is that emotional misers are missing out on the essential human experience by their disconnection. A common story arc features an emotional miser's transformation into a loving, connected, happier person -- often against his or her own will.

Ryan Bingham (George Clooney's character in Up in the Air) and Will Freeman (Hugh Grant's character in About a Boy) are examples of emotional misers in film and literature.
