Nu Metal

Nu metal is a failed attempt to restart the heavy metal movement which ended in the early 90's. Contrary to popular belief, however, it is not a genre liked soly buy rich suburbian kids trying to piss off their parents and find problems in their life. It is also followed by "classic" metal heads seeking something new to get into. "old" or "classic" metal ended in the 90's when MTV decided metal wasnt cool anymore; and kids being impresionable little freaks started to follow grunge, then alternative, and now punk. Still, metal heads linger banging their heads in the underground and watching concerts theyve seen a million time, which is why Nu Metal came about.

metal head: this is the 1,457,234,002 time i've listened to master of puppets, its time to try something new.

emo kid that nows nothing about metal: try Lamb of God, there like, heavy metal cuz they scream.

metal head: I guess i have no choice

Nu Metal

1. The movement in music characterized by:
a. Chromatic-scale guitar riffs
b. Cacophonic sound effects and guitar
c. Unusually low-tuned guitars
d. often a "singing" style with an emphasis not on melody, but on emotion (i.e. screaming, crying, etc) - often no "real singing" exists in the music
e. Focuses on the darker things in life

2. A derogatory term for any new music (Not necessarily metal - Linkin Park and Nickelback are *rock* bands, not metal) that is both popular and is not in ones personal taste and therefore "sucks."

3. A form of metal started in the eighties but remained underground while bands like Metallica and Anthrax dominated the popular metal scene. Then in the nineties bands like Korn and Limp Biscuit became popular and the music was labeled "nu metal."

4. Often an amalgamation of several styles of music, but dominated by metal. The most frequent style incorporated is rap.

Slipknot is intentionaly bad whereas most music is unintentionaly bad.

nu metal

A classification used for a wide range of alternative rock acts, some of which have metal roots, some of which have rap elements, and some of which are really hard rock. This term was used by the media to define these acts back when they first started coming out after the alternative craze so they could be classified in the same genre, even though they don't really sound much alike. In reality, there is no such genre as nu metal, as every band that could be said to be in this genre really belongs to another. For example, Linkin Park is rap metal or rapcore (and really their latest stuff is just rock) while Disturbed is more Alternative Metal.

Metalheads will often complain about how much nu metal sucks but they really shouldn't because there is no such genre. Better stick to hating individual bands.

If you think Linkin Park and Disturbed are both nu metal, you're fucking insane.

Nu Metal

1 - A broad genre that consists of great bands and shitty bands. Self proclaimed "true" metal-heads who listen to only speed metal or thrash metal and think that all the metal world has to offer is fast guitar riffs in straight E tuning and lyrics that were written in an instant and the same damn solo in every song that was pretty amazing the first time you heard it until you realized it was just some guy playing some scale really fast and then jerking the fuck off his whammy bar without any emotion whatsoever. These "true" metal-heads denounce Nu Metal because of its lack of guitar solos and say it's unemotional fast guitar riffs in low dropped tuning and their singers don't sing. So basically the difference is that the two forms of metal are in two different tunings and one of them doesn't consist of solos and makes up for that with emotion.

2-Too broad a term to really paint a picture of but is characterized by electronics, emotion, a tendancy to piss off a hypocritical self (and wrongly) proclaimed "true" metalhead (who should listen to some fucking Tool and Alice in Chains if he wants to know which talented bands to compare nu metal bands to in order to show how untalented they are), and less talent than the metal of the late 80s and early 90s. Sure nu metal bands lack solos and tend to write most of their songs in the same key and don't do anything that's technically amazing, but they have more emotion than all every "true" metalhead's bands combined! The downside to Nu Metal
3-Unfortunately a genre that appeals to teenagers who think they're depressed but are just too dumb to look around themselves and see that everyone else is going through the same thing, really haven't heard any real real real music and listen to bands because of the lyrics that are simple and dark enough for them to relate to and the image of the band. It's because of these dumbasses that everyone else hates nu metal.

You really have to be open minded (or dumb enough to think you're depressed because you're a normal teenager) to listen to Nu Metal

Sure, Nu Metal bands aren't nearly as talented as 90's metal bands, but they're a helluva lot more emotional and interesting than emo and screamo bands
