American Badass

Typically have long hair, but not always. Can be wearing anything from biker gear, to cowboy boots, to handlebar mustaches, to bandanas (the pre-made kind, normally not real ones), to denim jackets, to American flag apparrel, to shirts with wolves or eagles on them. They also like sleeveless t-shirts.

They're usually of the trailer park variety. In a crowd of people, you'd spot an American Badass as being the guy that's dressed like a biker, but doesn't have a motorcycle. Usually a big fan of classic rock music, or possibly country.

Fred: "Hey, when we were working security last night for that Motley Crue show, did you see all of the American Badasses in the crowd?"

Stan: "Yeah, one of them is dating my mom."

American Identity

what it means to be an American: one who takes advantage of the freedom and opportunity we have here

When Miss Poblete asked the class what the American Identity is, David said an American is one who takes advantage of the freedom and opportunity we have here.

american idiot

a once great band who is now overrated. american idiot is hailed a politically-charged "rock opera". as optimistic as i am about the return of pop music to something deeper, more intelligent and controversial, green day has made a commendable effort, but fallen short. purely musically speaking, american idiot is mediocre. a couple decent songs, but interwoven with a tired theme. it seems the california garage band has taken themselves too seriously. rock and roll has always been an outlet for protest, but the message is misguided when it is intended for twelve year olds who only listen to green day for punk rawk street cred.

a valiant effort, delivered to a nescient audiance.

american english

It may be a bastardization of English-English, but the majority of English speakers live in America. If you went the majority, American English is the proper form of English.

There are some 508 million English speakers in the world, and some 280 million of them live in the USA.

Irish-American

An individual born in America who is Irish on both sides for every generation back to the last family member born in Ireland.

I find it offensive that some of the "Irish - I was born here" are so hostile to Irish-Americans.

My family - whose names are Hughes, Rooney, Mullin, O'Brien, Daugherty, McMannus, among others - all left County Monaghan, Ireland in April of 1847 when they were put off the land by and English landowner and told to take the offered passage and go to British North America (Canada) or go to the poorhouse and starve with the other million people who died.

It's not like they left Ireland by choice. They were forced out, those who were able to stay in Ireland and keep body and soul together through the An Gorta Mor, who maybe had a decent landlord or owned a little land of their own - should be grateful to God that they didn't have to suffer the passage on the coffin ship my family came to Canada on.

I am the 4th generation not born in Ireland, but I am probably a lot more Irish than some born there. No English blood flows through my viens. I don't tell people I am Irish, I tell them I am American of Irish ancestry.
