desk mannequin

A person who is required by their boss to be seen in their chair during normal business daytime hours, even though this may not be productive. Contrast with someone who has a flexible schedule. (desk phantom)

The desk mannequin may often be required to interact with clients or answer phone calls or may be involved in a support operation. The desk phantom on the other hand comes and goes and may be at the desk late in the day and return to work into the wee hours of the night.

Joanne has to get to work by 8, she's a desk mannequin for Compucorp. She'll be available again right after 5 though.

shawshank desk

A school desk a teacher pieces together using a chair and a small table for the comfort of fat students. This references Andy Dufrene's use of scrap resources to accomplish goals in "The Shawshank Redemption".

Larry's belly was so big the edge of his old desk cut into it. So the teacher moved him to the shawshank desk, and now his belly has lots of room and he can focus on his schoolwork.

repo desk

(FINANCE) department of a securities firm that specializes in repurchase agreements. A repurchase agreement is a type of short-term loan in which a borrower sells a security (like a share of stock) and agrees to buy the same security back in a few days.

From the point of view of the counterparty buying/re-selling the stock, this deal is known as a reverse-repo. Reverse-repos are useful to brokerages because they allow the brokerage to short the stock.

Through a repo desk, the bank can finance short-term borrowings on behalf of itself and its clients. The repo desk makes money by charging interest on typically very short term loans - 1 to 5 days.

desk jockey

Someone whose primary means of employment involves a desk.
This can be anything from someone who is just above cubicles to a receptionist to a glorified receptionist.
This person is usually ridiculous on their own accord.
Desk jockeys are often found in the tourism industry.

The twins got jobs as desk jockeys at an RV rental place, so they explain rental contracts in both of Canada's national languages.
