Indie

The definition of Irony.

Originally 'Indie' referred to the independent music industry, now it's a label of people.

try hard indie fags in their truest form:
laneways drinking coffees
vintage stores
rollies
at gigs all the time
will usually wear fugly clothes because it's individual
bag other people for being indie
are the best at giving people the greasy
polaroid pictures are a must
doc martens
ripped tights
jumpers from the 80's
ecentric hair pieces
wayfarer sunglasses
etc etc etc

Paul: -sits down drinking coffee rolling a ciggy-
Peter: 'Omg you're so indie!'
Paul: 'shuddup i am not!' -loves the attention and name calling-

indie

Not actually a musical genre. Stems from the meaning of independent labels, which can apply to any REAL musical genre, from punk to metal and their subgenres, to underground hip hop etc. Bands such as Arcade Fire, Modest Mouse, The Academy Is, etc, are/were commonly labeled as Indie, but most bands that commonly fall into the "indie" label are actually just as easily (and correctly) labeled as art-rock or experimental.

Indie kids, however, are generally pretentious, stuck up (and by no means more educated/intelligent than anyone falling into another social group) copy-cats that think they know everything about music, movies, life, etc. One commonly sees them dressed up in earth tones with suspenders, sporting such "outdated" fashions as corduroy, and those slanted hats commonly associated with grandfathers and old-school newspaper boys.

indie labels: anything that is not funded/ran by large corporations and multinational businesses, even more popular labels such as Epitaph and Fat Wreck-Chords would be considered independent labels

-----

Indie kid 1: "Hey Chuck, did you hear that new Arcade Fire CD?"

Indie kid 2: Uh, James, Arcade Fire sold out man, they aren't indie. But those are some nice suspenders you have. Let's philosophize about the affect of cheese on society."

indie

Indie music is about grit, struggle, and everyday life, It is not about faggot students in pink blazers dancing to the klillers on a night out in a posh bar on their Mummy and Daddys wages, Franz Ferdinand is NOT indie, nor are the Killers, Bravery, Kasier Chefis ECT, theese are faggot student pop bands, indie is Oasis, The Stone Roses, Cast, Happy Mondays, Joy Division, Charlatans ECT

Student Cunt : Oh yeah, im so indie, ive just got the new franz ferdinand album, theres a really cool song on there about going out on mummys money in a pink blazer and dancing like a cunt.

Indie Lad: Ive just scraped enough money together to buy a copy of All Change by Cast and a few e's, i mignt be poor, but at least im real.

indie

An elitist.
Most claim to 'just be themselves', but really STRIVE to be unique. They brag about how different they are.
They listen to bands no one has heard of to feel superior.
They also irrationally hate any other kind of people and music.

Extremely annoying people for the above reasons.

You really are not cool. You are NOT better than anyone else, and you're music is not better than any other. I'll be honest here; I've been called indie - and I might even be as I don't fit into any steriotype. But that's because I really do only do, listen to and wear what I like. I do not really like indie music that much - I like what I like; which can include all sort of stuff, but mostly varied forms of metal, rock and hard rock and also swing. I don't think I'm cool, especially not because I'm different - and I don't have to claim that I'm unique to make myself feel good or superior.

I'd also like to mention their is nothing wrong with emo music - though I do not listen to it much myself. Also, as was implied in another submission, Trivium and Cradle of Filth are not emo. Both are bands which I quite enjoy.

I'm indie; I'm so cool. I'm different and I only like things that no one else does - but thats really what I like of course. I hate goths and emos and chavs and preps and and genre of music other than indie.

indie

A pretentious form of music for rich, image-obsessed students who see themselves as "intellectual" and think smoking and wearing tweed's cool because Pete Doherty does it.

Indie may be "cool" but it's fucking boring.

indie

So awesome, non-mainstream in no way whatsoever. Someone that is indie does not follow the herd. You can not become indie, you are only born that way. To be indie is to not care about anything, but at the same time, to be above everything. Even this site.

1. Kalie is a most decidely non-indie person, while Jessica rocks the indie boat without trying.

Indie

Generally considered to be what the emos of years gone by have grown up into, and with it recieving the same ignorant hatred etc, "Indie" simply refers to Independent Music, i.e. music which hasn't been signed to a label. Of course some people try to fit into this by "being" Indie, but really it's not something you can be. Such people typically have floppy, greasy hair, wear silly jumpers, chinos and vans and usually suffer from delusions of grandeur and smoke inexpensive roll ciggarettes whilst talking about how individual and different they are. Whilst not truely Indie, these people have come to earn the term "Indie" a bad name and with it have ruined anyone who happens to enjoy that type of music innocently, without being a pretentious poser.

My friends and I were discussing our Musical taste one evening in the pub when some Indie posers came over and started telling us how much cooler they are than us. Naturally, we told them to go get haircuts and come back once they'd washed.
