1. A term that encompasses most all modern progressive rock or metal that places emphasis on time signature modulation and meter as opposed to dynamics, melody, or harmony. "Math rock/metal" encompasses everything from the jazzier leanings of post rock act Slint, to the phrase swapping and odd meters of the Dillinger Escape Plan, and even the hemiola and polyrhythm experiments of bands like Meshuggah and Tool.
2. A term often falsely described as "intelligent music" by people who simply regurgitate what they are told and apparently have no idea how to count.
Math rock/metal requires concentration.

A genre of music that combines Post-Rock, Black Metal, and sometimes Shoegaze. Lyrical themes include, but aren't limited to, sorrow, beauty, surrealism, etc.
Examples of Post-Black Metal: Alcest, Silence of the Old Man, Lantlos, Shyy, Dopamine, Austere, Woods of Desolation, Grey Waters, and Heretoir.
Post-Black Metal is an amazing genre of music that few people know about.

A gray toyota that has any of the folowing qualities:
-cracked windshield
-windows that dont open
-windows that HAVE to be open or the car will fill up with exhaust
-air condtioning that is permanetly stuck on the hottest setting
-when turned on vents generally blow out bits of dried leaves
-radio is actually UPSIDEDOWN in the dash.
-screaming sounds emenate from axles when turning
-filled with muddy, sharp digging equipment/ old computer hard drives
-has a monkey wrench with questionable redish brown stains in the glove compartment
- is loved and cherished by its owner despite constant warnings and pleas to get rid of it from his sons.

Symphonic Black Metal is essentially the Black Metal equivalent of Melodic Death Metal, only (as the name states) is more related to a symphony.
Symphonic Black Metal uses Guitar, Bass, Drums, Keyboards, and on occasions Symphony instruments such as Violins, Cellos, etc.
Dimmu Borgir is my favorite Symphonic Black Metal band.
