n. A horrible writer and a joke of a human being. An unwilling poltical tool and perennial favorite of the marginally intelligent.
Clarence Thomas considered the film-adaptation of Ayn Rand's "The Fountainhead" required viewing for his staffers. If that isn't proof positive, then you're a lost cause.

When rabid proponents of laissez-faire capitalism get horny.
The Teabaggers all got so Ayn Randy about John Galt during their Atlas Shrugged book discussion that they began teabagging each other.

20th-Century writer who didn't get laid enough.
No body likes me. Perhaps I should be like Ayn Rand and hate everyone other than myself, including those I agree with entirely, such as the Libertarian Party.

A writer of much inconsistency
"The necessary consequence of man's right to life is his right to self-defense. In a civilized society, force may be used only in retaliation and only against those who initiate its use. _All the reasons which make the initiation of force an evil_, make the retaliatory use of physical force a moral imperative."---Ayn Rand, Virtue of Selfishness (emphasis mine)
"Racism is the lowest, most crudely primitive form of collectivism"---Ayn Rand, Virtue of Selfishness
"Any white person who brought the element of civilization had the right to take over this continent"---Ayn Rand, 1974 West Point lecture

Most noted for her novel Atlas Shrugged, Ayn Rand was an extremely, extremely hot writer and philosopher who advocated reason, egoism, and capitalism, allegedly on the grounds that existence exists.
Ayn Rand has been admired by many, but laughed at by still more

Mid-20th century pop-philosopher who first propounded objectivism in a set of rather poorly written cult novels of dubious quality. Her philosophy is founded on unremarkable restatements of the obvious, prizing material achievement, self-centered pride, and unfettered commerce as virtues over love, humility, generosity, and faithfulness. Followers of objectivism, called randroids, tend to be a rude, selfish, condescending bunch, intolerant of anything that does not perfectly match their ultra-naturalist, laissez-faire dogmatism.
"A=A, oh, yes, A=A," the randroid muttered again and again, softly, obsessively, as he cut out heart-shaped pictures of Ayn Rand from a magazine for his objectivist collage showing her to be the pinnacle of human evolution.
