Deep Cut

1. Usually a reference to any particular artist's more obscure work.

2. Can also refer to "deeper" topics of conversation. Things that people with prior knowledge of a particular subject might know of but are oft unable to talk about due to perceived obscurity and/or controversy surrounding the particular topic.

1.

M: Have you even watched Star Trek if you haven't listened to William Shatner's spoken word album?
Z: We are all just common people.

V: That's a deep cut right there.

2.

P: I told you the video of him with the pipe was real.

M: The video quality was brutal, how could I tell?

P: You've seen too many deep fakes.
M: On pornhub or 8chan?
P: That's it...

Deep cut

A track from an album’s writing/recording sessions, which can comprise of up to 50 or more songs, which was believed to have great potential or value to the artist and/or fans but did not make the final tracklisting. Artists either share these deliberately or they leak via some means, usually the Internet. It’s called a deep cut because of the emotional impact the track has either on the artist or fans regarding its failure to make the album. Often confused with β€œhidden gem” album tracks which do not become singles but have a strong artist appreciation or fan following.

Kylie Minogue and Madonna have extensive deep cut back catalogues that their fanbases know, perhaps, better than they do.
