In addition, the word is derived from the common term "Lmao" butt the "a" for ass is removed because the girl did indeed laugh her ass off.

'lmo' is just a shorter and easier to write version of 'lmao': laughing my ass off.
It is preferable over its extended version due to the fact that 'l','m' and 'o' are present near each other and can be typed with one hand only. 'a', however, is quite far and would require your other hand too, which might not be free.

Lmo is short for lmao, which is short for laughing my ass of. By cutting the ass out you get a better expression for your laughter. Lmo can be used in a similar way as lol.
