A hallucination, illusion conjured by the brain, resulting from prolonged exposure to extreme heat. This may consist of a water source mirage as seen by a person lost in a desert and thirsty.
Tom dragged himself forward, the demonic sun baking him dry, and spotted a shimmering blue ribbon of a river. Excited, he attempted to run towards the river but found that it was but a mirage. He cried out to the sky in anguish.

Another word for a marriage that only looks like a marriage. More often associated with an otherwise normal marriage that is plagued by the lack of sex for many reasons. A sexless marriage. It is so unbearable at times, that it seems quite unreal, even to yourself.
"They haven't had sex in over three years!"
"But they seem like such a perfect, happy couple. They're not even in their forties!"
"They do get along really well. They are best friends. It's a mirage."

A mirage is a person whom you find attractive from a distance but as they come closer that attractiveness disappears like it was never their at all. More commonly known as a Picaso
