dope

In the 60's thru 80's "dope" usually meant marijuana. See the famous quote from the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers ("Dope will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no dope!"). For a time, "dope" became a more generic term, often used for heroin (which used to be called "smack" or "junk"). "Weed" is now usually preferred for marijuana.

These days, dope is most often used to refer to heroin, though it can refer to any drug that's common in a community.

"Man, you know where I can get some dope?"

"Dope? When did you start shooting up?"

"Oh, alright, smartass, WEED! After 30 years, old habits die hard! Can you hook me up, or not?"

Dope

In the past, and still in some localities, any kind of drug, including β€œsoft” drugs like marijuana. Currently most often used used specifically for heroin. Regional variation can cause confusion.

The antidrug commercials (often featuring marijuana), tagline: β€œWhy do you think they call it dope?”

β€œShooting yourself with dope (heroin) is just less efficient than using a gun.”

β€œSomeone scored some great dope and we smoked all day.”

doping

An antiquated form of cheating used in the 70s by competative swimmers and track runners.

An athelete has some of their blood removed prior to a match (far enough in advance that the body regenerates the lost blood) and then immediately before the competition redeposits the extracted blood in their body. This process gives the athelete highly oxidated blood which enhances their performance.

It is no longer done as nowadays advanced performance-enhancing drugs can replicate the effect.

The swimmer was disqualified after their post-meet testing revealed them to be blood doping.
